The Auxilio Radiotherapy Center is among the largest of its kind in the Caribbean, with sophisticated, state-of-the-art
technology. Our highly trained staff will assist all of our cancer patients throughout their radiation procedures and
oncology treatment needs.
Patients will feel comfortable and thoroughly guided by the healthcare professionals throughout the Center, comprised
of a first-class medical staff.
Our services include:
TrueBeam™
One of the most advanced systems of radiation therapy and radiosurgery for the treatment of cancer. With this technology,
physicians can customize the treatment according to the patient's medical needs. TrueBeam offers treatment
options for patients who might not otherwise have been candidates for traditional radiation therapy. It offers
many forms of advanced treatments, including Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT), Intensity Modulated
Radiation Therapy (IMRT), RapidArc ® radiation therapy technology, and Gated RapidArc. The ability to choose
between these different treatment modalities represents an innovative level of customizing radiation therapy
treatments for patients. For more information, you can visit www.variantruebeam.com.
Calypso Systems, GPS for the Body®
This system is exclusive at the Radiotherapy Center to treat prostate cancer patients and considered the best
one available in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean. Known as GPS for the body ® technology, the Calypso focuses
radiation directly on the tumor and not on the surrounding healthy tissue. The Calypso system accurately and
precisely tracks the position of the target tissue in real time using radio frequency waves. It is the only real-time
technology for prostate radiation therapy that offers additional or unnecessary radiation protection. For more
information, you can visit www.hitthetumor.com and www.calypsomedical.com.
Three-Dimensional Conformal Radiation Therapy (3D-CRT)
Utilizes computers and special imaging techniques such as CT, MRI or PET scans to show the size, shape and
location of the tumor as well as the surrounding organs. The radiation beams are very precisely directed,
therefore normal, nearby tissues receive less radiation, allowing it to heal faster.
Stereotactic Radiation Therapy
This is a specialized technique that allows radiation oncologists to use extremely focused beams of radiation to
destroy certain types of tumors using higher doses than with the daily radiation treatments. The beam is so
precise that it spares more healthy tissue. This therapy is often used for the lung, spine or liver. It may allow
radiation to be given in a safer and more effective manner, than any other radiation technique.
Brachytherapy
Is the placement of radioactive sources in or right next to the tumor. High-dose rate (HDR) brachytherapy
involves the remote placement of the powerful radiation source, accurately directed by your radiation oncologist
and team, into the tumor for several minutes through a catheter.
